About Harvey World Travel
The first Harvey World Travel office was opened in May 1951 as an adjunct to the Harvey Real Estate office in Cronulla, a southern suburb of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. Initially, the business was a family company operated by the late John Harvey.
In 1978 the company ventured into more specialist retail travel by opening the USA Travel Service in Pitt Street Sydney, in the same building as the US Consulate.
Early in 1979 a new company formed - Harvey World Travel Franchise Holdings PTY LTD. This was the beginning of retail travel in Australia, and we believe, the world! At this time the Harvey World Travel Group
was recognised as the largest privately owned travel agency group in Australia with a total of six offices. The Director and General Manager at the time was Paul Fleming, who had been working for several years with the Harvey family.
The first of the fully franchised offices was opened in 1979 at West Gosford, with Earlwood, Miranda, Yagoona and Rose Bay quickly following.
The rapid growth of the company in the early nineties dictated that the head office operation move into larger, more modern premises. In 1992 the company purchased a new three storey building at 631 Princes Highway, Kogarah.
In 1993 the 300th franchise was opened at Fountain Gate in Victoria.
Harvey World Travel is one of the longest established retail travel agencies in Australia, with the first Harvey World Travel agency having been opened in May 1951.
